SUMMARY:CPDD thinklab Webinar: Ethical Considerations for Clinical Research in People Who Use Drugs
DESCRIPTION:Ethical Considerations for Clinical Research in People Who Use Drugs\nSpeaker: William Stoops\, PhD \nOur inaugural session\, “Ethical Considerations for Clinical Researchers Working with People Who Use Drugs\,” launches the series with a critical examination of the ethical challenges unique to this field. While grounded in the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) requirements vital for NIH training grants\, this session provides universal insights into navigating critical aspects of clinical research\, including informed consent\, risk-benefit assessment\, stigma mitigation\, and community engagement. \nAttendees will gain technical understanding of responsible research practices designed to protect participant autonomy and confidentiality while maintaining scientific integrity in complex clinical and community-based environments. \nThe CPDD Education Committee is pleased to introduce the new CPDD thinklab\, a Research Training & Career Development Series\, with comprehensive curriculum designed to support the addiction science workforce across the professional spectrum.   \nBy bridging the gap between basic discovery and clinical application\, these sessions deliver practical guidance on the scientific rigor and ethical conduct critical for investigators across all career stages and the biomedical\, behavioral\, and clinical sciences\, from basic laboratory scientists to clinical practitioners. The curriculum emphasizes the development of reproducible research and the proficiency of regulatory competencies necessary to advance the field of substance use disorders and addiction science. \nEach session features an expert scientist and addresses essential topics relevant to the multidisciplinary research pipeline\, from animal models to clinical trials\, offering actionable takeaways that can be immediately applied to research training and professional practice.
