SUMMARY:"What’s Emergent in Emerging Adult Recovery Support Services Research?" Forum Series (Part 3)
DESCRIPTION:"What’s Emergent in Emerging Adult Recovery Support Services Research?" Forum Series (Part 3) \n"Emerging adults aged 16–25 face heightened risks of opioid use disorder (OUD) and fentanyl-related overdoses. Although medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) are effective for long-term management\, emerging adults often encounter significant challenges\, including unmet needs in employment\, housing\, and social support. These difficulties are further combined with life transitions\, such as establishing independence\, pursuing vocational growth\, and fostering stable relationships\, along with risks of high rates of co-occurring mental health issues and polysubstance use\, which can complicate recovery efforts. Despite these challenges\, very few research studies have addressed the unique recovery needs of this population. \nThis forum series offers a platform for meaningful dialogue on how to best support emerging adults in their recovery journeys. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with experts\, young adults with lived experience\, and researchers. Part 3 of this virtual series features presentations by leading recovery scientists highlighting the latest research and innovative strategies for supporting emerging adults' recovery." \nTo Register:  https://www.jeapinitiative.org/ea-recovery-support-forums/ \nQuestions:  jeap@chestnut.org

SUMMARY:ISAM Annual Congress - Hamburg\, Germany - May 25\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Global Innovation Day for Addiction Therapeutics \nAddiction is a major public health issue affecting millions worldwide. Innovative solutions are urgently needed to combat this crisis\, reduce its impact\, and save lives. The World Innovation Day for Addiction Therapeutics serves as a platform for fostering collaboration between academia\, health sector\, regulatory agencies\, and industry\, driving innovation\, and accelerating the development of effective tools and technologies for assessment and treatments for addiction and its comorbidities. By bringing together experts from various fields\, this event aims to catalyze the development of new modalities for assessment\, therapies\, and interventions. There are several reasons why convening such an event matters: \nBridging the Gap: There is often a disconnection between scientific discoveries and their implementation in real-world settings. This event aims to bridge that gap by facilitating dialogue and collaboration between clinicians from the addiction medicine/psychiatry academia\, industry professionals\, and researchers from both\, facilitating the translation of groundbreaking research into tangible benefits for patients. \nEnhancing Investment: Securing funding is a significant hurdle in the journey from research to market. The presence of senior venture capital and other types of investors and funding agencies at this event provides a unique opportunity for startups and established companies to showcase their innovations\, attract investment\, and accelerate their growth. \nKnowledge Sharing: The event will feature multiple panels and lectures\, offering participants a chance to share their experiences\, learn from each other\, and stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in the field of addiction medicine therapeutics. This exchange of knowledge is crucial for driving progress and fostering a collaborative environment. \nBuilding a Stronger Community: By gathering many leaders from clinics\, universities\, industry\, regulatory agencies and investment communities\, this event creates a robust network of professionals committed to improving addiction treatment. These connections can lead to long-term collaborations\, innovative projects\, and a stronger\, more unified approach to addressing addiction. \nThe First World Innovation Day for Addiction Therapeutics will be on May 25th\, in Hamburg\, Germany as a full day pre-conference event for the ISAM 2025 Annual Congress \nhttps://www.isam-hamburg.com/ \n\n\nWho is Invited?  We would like to invite all companies\, startups\, and entrepreneurs active in developing products for addiction prevention\, assessment\, treatment\, and rehabilitation to join us for “World Innovations for Addiction Therapeutics – From Scientific Discovery to Saving Lives.” This is an ISAM event designed for academia/industry partnership\, focusing on innovation and investment in newest technologies for helping patients affected by addictions and their comorbidities. This event will take place on Sunday\, May 25\, 2025\, in Hamburg\, Germany\, as part of the official pre-conference activities of the ISAM 27th Global Congress. Bringing together more than many leaders from clinics\, universities\, industry\, and investment communities\, this unique gathering aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences and visions for this evolving field. \nAt ISAM’s Innovations Day\, both innovators and established companies will have the opportunity to share their ideas\, product and company narratives with clinicians\, scientists\, venture capitalists\, engineers\, regulatory agencies\, and industry professionals. Aligned with the theme of the day\, participating companies are invited to spotlight the challenges and advantages of innovation specific to their products from discovery to implementation in communities. The agenda for the day will include multiple panels and talks\, ensuring that all the registered\, invited and willing participants have the opportunity for podium time\, either individually or as part of panel discussions. \nIn addition to the presenting companies\, senior venture capital investors from major corporations will be invited. This offers an excellent platform for you and your company to showcase your vision\, ideas\, achievements\, forge new connections\, learn from peers\, assess progress\, and become more competitive and successful in the future market of addiction therapeutics. \nThe Application Process:  We encourage all companies\, startups\, and entrepreneurs active in developing products for addiction prevention\, assessment\, treatment\, and rehabilitation to consider participating in this event. If you are interested\, please submit your letter of interest by sending an email to the ISAM office isam.mdorozio@gmail.com to join the event at your earliest convenience. The subject line of email should be “Expressing Interest in ISAM 2025 Innovation Day.” Subsequently\, you will hear from us. \nPlease note that the established companies selected to participate will enter into an agreement with the ISAM through which the responsibilities / liabilities / entitlements of each of the parties shall be articulated and agreed upon. Please also note that each company selected to participate will\, as a part of the agreement with ISAM\, provide an unrestricted grant to the ISAM\, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization registered in Canada\, besides paying the registration fee for the ISAM 2025 conference. \nThe Agenda Outline (TBC)\nA. SUMMARY:NABR Webinar: "From Promise to Practice: The Current Landscape of New Approach Methodologies"
DESCRIPTION:NABR Webinar: "From Promise to Practice: The Current Landscape of New Approach Methodologies" \nPlease join us on Oct. 7\, 2025\, at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time\, for Dr. Szczepan Baran’s presentation titled\, "From Promise to Practice: The Current Landscape of New Approach Methodologies." \nAn abundance of viewpoints have been in the news and on social media surrounding the FDA announcement on April 10\, about their Plan to Phase Out Animal Testing Requirement for Monoclonal Antibodies and Other Drugs; the NIH announcement creating the Office of Research Innovation\, Validation\, and Application (ORIVA) later on the same month; and the July 7 announcement by the Acting Deputy Director of the Division of Program Coordination\, Planning and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI) within the NIH Office of the Director that “all new NIH-funded opportunities moving forward should incorporate language on consideration of NAMS” and “The NIH will no longer seek proposals exclusively for animal models.” \nWe have invited a special guest speaker to help us understand what all this means as pressure mounts to modernize biomedical research. New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) including in vitro\, in silico\, and human-relevant models — are gaining visibility as alternatives to traditional animal studies. But visibility does not always equate to implementation. This presentation will offer a high-level yet practical overview of where we stand today with NAMs: which technologies are maturing\, which are overhyped\, and where policy\, infrastructure\, and culture must evolve to enable true transformation. Drawing from experiences across regulatory science\, industry\, and academia\, Dr. Szczepan Baran will explore what it takes to bridge scientific innovation with real-world impact — ethically\, efficiently\, and collaboratively. \nRegister here:  https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_dlaIpljzQ9CXvxDfOe-iFw#/registration \n

SUMMARY:NABR Webinar: “How Can We Defend Animal Research – As Ideology That Rejects Sound Science and Humane Ethics Is Increasingly Driving the Opposition?”
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on May 5\, 2026\, at 12:30 p.m. EDST for the next NABR Webinar. Jerrold Tannenbaum will be returning and joined by Brandon Morton and Taylor Bennett for a presentation titled “How Can We Defend Animal Research – As Ideology That Rejects Sound Science and Humane Ethics Is Increasingly Driving the Opposition?” \nDefending animal research is becoming increasingly difficult. Not because research has failed to contribute to the health and well-being of humans and animals\, but because a large and increasing proportion of the opposition ignores or dismisses scientific evidence of the effectiveness\, and necessity\, of animal research. Opponents also increasingly ignore or dismiss ethical principles that have been cornerstones of medical science\, such as the principle that humans are of greater worth and value than animals and that we may use them when necessary to understand and combat disease\, illness\, and disability. \nAnimal research opponents are adopting ideologies that ignore or reject critical scientific and ethical principles that have traditionally been foundations of animal research. These ideologies are adopted before debate or discussion even begins. The result is that it has become even more difficult for the research community to defend animal research by documenting the necessity and benefits of this research\, the humane treatment of research animals\, and the lack of availability of non-animal methodologies in certain kinds of research. \nIdeological rejection of animal research is not new. What is new is its adoption by government officials who have the power to curtail and eventually end animal research. In the past\, such officials could be counted on to consider impartially and fairly the scientific and ethical case for animal research. \nThis webinar will describe and explain the most important ideologies employed against scientifically and ethically valuable and necessary animal research. We will explore ways of countering these ideologies\, including practical steps all who are involved in animal research can\, and must\, take now.
