AJDAA Diversity Editorial Fellowship
The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse (AJDAA) is recruiting up to two fellows for our 2nd year of the ADJAA Diversity Editorial Fellowship Program. This fellowship aims to provide early career researchers from diverse backgrounds with experience and insight into the editorial process. Fellows will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) and Associate Editors (AEs), in addition to a Fellowship Director, to get hands-on experience in the editorial process.
The AJDAA is an international journal with a 2023 5-year IF of 3.6. The Journal is published six times per year. It provides a stimulating venue for the exchange of ideas between researchers working in a variety of substance use-related subject areas, including public policy, epidemiology, neurobiology, and the treatment of addictive disorders. AJDAA includes a wide range of translational research, covering preclinical and clinical aspects of the field, including work conducted in underserved populations, and observational studies documenting trends in substance use and its causes.
Fellowship components: The Fellowship will start on Jan 15, 2025, and last for 1 year. Each Fellow will receive a stipend of $2,000 US and $500 US for other expenses (e.g. travel and/or training). Fellows will be paired with an editor (AE or EIC). With guidance from their mentoring team, the Fellows will solicit peer reviewers, make editorial decisions on manuscripts, and contribute to all aspects of the editorial process. Fellows will attend regular conference calls with the editors and have individual calls with their mentor to discuss the decision on manuscripts and any other editorial concerns. The Fellows, under the guidance of the editors, are encouraged to write at least one Perspectives or Letter to the Editor during the year-long fellowship. The Fellows will share feedback on their progress and further improvement of the program with the Fellowship co-directors.
Criteria for the applicant: Early career researchers (defined as less than 10 years from MD/PhD/equivalent terminal degree) from underrepresented backgrounds in health-related sciences are encouraged to apply. Applicants from non-underrepresented backgrounds may also apply.
Application process: To apply, please send a CV (max 3 pages) and completed Application Form for Editorial Fellowship to fellowship co-Directors Dr. Leah Mayo (leah.mayo@ucalgary.ca) and Dr. Abhishek Ghosh (ghoshabhishek12@gmail.com) no later than October 15, 2024.
Successful applicants will be notified of their selection in early December and the Fellowship will commence on Jan 15, 2025.
