Assistant Professor – Medical Discovery Team on Addiction (MDTA) – University of Minnesota
The University of Minnesota is seeking candidates for a tenure-track faculty appointment as part of a multi-departmental endeavor across the Medical School. The vision is to link basic and translational research to new therapeutic approaches for addiction. The State of Minnesota appropriated significant funds for the University of Minnesota Medical School to build the Medical Discovery Team on Addiction (MDTA) – a world-class, neuroscience-based program whose mission is to discover new, transformative therapies for Substance Use Disorders.
The MDTA is composed of outstanding faculty with expertise in addiction-relevant areas, including the neural circuitry of addiction, mechanisms of drug craving, reward and relapse, stress and emotional regulation, and decision-making. For this position, we are particularly interested in individuals with clinical experience who perform human clinical research and whose research programs include neuromodulation approaches for treating addiction. The overall vision is to promote synergy across disciplines and levels of research to advance discovery and new therapies for humans suffering from addictions.
Research of current MDTA faculty has significant support from federal sources. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)-based research funding currently stands at ~$15M per year, including a NIDA “Center of Excellence”- the Center for Neural Circuits in Addiction. The University of Minnesota has a strong history of collaborative and transdisciplinary investigation in addiction research.
Candidates must hold MD or PhD degrees, be clinically licensable in the state of Minnesota, and must be a US citizen or be eligible for NIH funding.
