The Division of Therapeutics and Medical Consequences (DTMC) of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is hiring a Health Scientist Administrator (HSA) – Chemist for the Chemistry and Pharmaceuticals Branch. The DTMC supports and conducts clinical trials (Phases 1-4) to identify and evaluate the efficacy and/or safety of pharmacotherapies, behavioral therapies, devices, and digital therapeutics to treat Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and the medical consequences of SUDs. DTMC supports research and development, through peer-reviewed grants and contracts, for all stages of the medication development process including synthesis and preclinical evaluation of potential therapeutics, clinical trial design and execution, and preparing regulatory submissions.
The HSA-Chemist will be responsible for managing a research program of grants and contracts evaluating chemical design, synthesis, formulation, metabolism, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic, and biopharmaceutics related to the discovery and development of new medications to treat SUDs. The incumbent is also responsible for key aspects of the research on production of new novel chemical compounds with potential for SUD treatment. He or she will establish and maintain liaison with prominent members of the scientific community, pharmaceutical industry, the FDA and other related government agencies to continually evaluate the adequacy of pharmaceutical research in the SUDs space and initiate efforts to direct research to potentially promising new areas in the field.
