Journal of Addiction Medicine Editorial Fellowship Program
The Journal of Addiction Medicine (JAM), the official peer-reviewed journal of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, seeks three Editorial Fellows to serve two-year Fellowships with JAM. Applicants should have at least two years of addiction research experience, have an MD, DO, PhD, DSc, or PsyD degree (or equivalent), have completed clinical specialty training, and hold faculty positions at the instructor or assistant professor level or other junior faculty level equivalent.
Candidates should have published at least 3 peer-reviewed papers, have strong knowledge of addiction science, and a record of commitment to and achievement in academic addiction. Candidates with expertise in epidemiology/pharmacoepidemiology or qualitative analysis/mixed methods are encouraged to apply.
Under the supervision of JAM Editors, the Fellows have the following responsibilities:
- Work as Handling Editor using the electronic manuscript submission system.
- Identify and engage manuscript peer reviewers from a range of disciplines.
- Synthesize reviewer comments, prepare and communicate comments and recommendations to authors with revision requests, and participate in the final manuscript decision—communicating with the Editor-in-Chief.
- Process 10-20 manuscripts a year.
- Write or co-write editorials for the Journal if the Editors determine you have the required experience and interest.
- Commit to 3-4 hours a week, including weekly 30-minute calls with Editor in Chief, Managing Editor, Co-Editors, publisher, and society representatives.
Fellows are encouraged to attend ASAM’s Annual Conference and Editorial Board meetings, which are held at the conferences. Conferences are attended by 2,000+ Addiction Medicine professionals, and present a terrific opportunity to learn and expand their networks.
Fellows will obtain extensive experience in manuscript review and scientific peer-reviewed publishing in addiction medicine. The two-year Editorial Fellowship offers an annual $500 stipend. Fellowships will begin January 1, 2025, and run through December 31, 2026.
