T32 Postdoctoral Fellowship in Addiction Research – University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
Program Overview: The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has multiple postdoctoral fellow positions available in our “Translational Training in Addiction” T32 research training program. Funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the program was recently renewed and is now in its 16th year of providing high-quality training and mentored research in addiction science. Training is highly individualized; postdoctoral trainees are matched to mentors whose content and/or methodological expertise matches their training goals, and trainees start the fellowship by constructing an individual development plan that guides their experience in the program. The majority of the fellow’s time will be spent on mentored research, including working on active research projects, conducting secondary analyses, writing publications, and writing grant applications. Fellows will also have dedicated time for complementary training activities including our didactics and research ethics series, cohort connection meetings, and a grant writing short course.

Benefits: Stipends will be granted at $61,008-$74,088, depending on prior training and according to the NIH pay scale. Health insurance reimbursement is available. Child care fees are also covered at up to $2,500 per budget period. Travel and training funds may additionally be approved, including funding for coursework if beneficial to a given trainee.
Qualifications: Per NIH requirements, qualified applicants will be citizen or non-citizen nationals of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of the appointment. Postdoctoral trainees must have received, as of the beginning date of their appointment, a Doctor of Philosophy, or comparable doctoral degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution. All trainees are requested to pursue their research training full-time, normally defined as 40 hours per week.
Setting: UAMS Medical Center is Arkansas’ only academic health sciences center and a primary source for both general and specialty care for Arkansans living in Little Rock and across the state. Little Rock provides a unique opportunity to work with urban, suburban, and rural populations from across the state of Arkansas. UAMS is located in Little Rock, a scenic city sitting on the south bank of the Arkansas River in Central Arkansas. It is the capital and most populous city in Arkansas with a 2018 population estimate of 198,000. The size of Little Rock and surrounding area gives its residents city amenities without the pitfalls of a large metropolitan area (e.g., long commutes, high cost of living). In 2014, Little Rock was ranked #1 in “America’s 10 Great Places to Live” by Kiplinger Personal Finance Magazine.
