NIH: Upcoming Webinar: Looking Inward: Addressing the Stigma of Addiction

Join presenters Dr. Wilson Compton, Deputy Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA); Dr. Elizabeth Magnan, Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine at University of California, Davis; Dr. Lisa Howley, Senior Director for Transforming Medical Education at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC); and Kamilah Weems, MS, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships at AAMC for a webinar on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 1:00–2:15 pm ET.

The presenters will share findings from a new systematic literature review published in Academic Medicine, the Journal of the AAMC, exploring health care professionals’ bias and stigma related to addiction. The article focuses on understanding the extent to which health care provider bias and stigma around substance use disorders exist and identifying effective interventions that can help mitigate these factors. Panelists will also provide updates on several national education efforts on substance use disorder training and discuss the state of the addiction crisis.
