Doctoral Degree Program – Applied Developmental Science – Colorado State University

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies has a strong prevention and translational sciences program to devise effective intervention and treatment strategies that are based on empirical evidence and careful evaluations. Dr. Nathaniel Riggs, Executive Director of the CSU Prevention Research Center, also conducts substance use prevention research.

Program Description: The Applied Developmental Science program (https://www.chhs.colostate.edu/hdfs/programs-and-degrees/ph-d-in-applied-developmental-science/ ) at Colorado State University is currently accepting applications for Fall 2024. The application deadline is December 15th. Our program offers graduate training in research and its applications to issues that affect the quality of life of individuals, families, and communities. Research in Human Development and Family Studies covers the lifespan, from infancy and early childhood through older adulthood, within in the areas of: Risk, Resilience, and Developmental Psychopathology; Treatment, Intervention, and Prevention Science; Emotion, Regulation, and Relational Processes; and Adult Development and Aging

In particular, we are looking to accept an applicant as a doctoral student to start in the Fall 2024 semester. This student will be mentored by (Dr. Melissa Fenton) and will work as a research assistant in my newly established research lab, the Rural AYA Behavioral Health Lab. My research primarily focuses on identifying the risk and protective factors for substance use unique to the rural context to target for intervention and prevention among adolescents and young adults (AYA).and will work as a research assistant in my newly established research lab, the Rural AYA Behavioral Health Lab.
