Full-Time Postdoctoral Position – UCLA

The UCLA Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research Laboratory, led by Dr. Ziva Cooper, of the University of California, Los Angeles Center for Cannabis and Cannabinoids at the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences invites applicants for a full-time postdoctoral position. Dr. Cooper’s laboratory focuses on controlled human laboratory studies of cannabis and cannabinoids to understand both their potential therapeutic and adverse effects.

Duties: The postdoctoral fellow will work directly with Dr. Cooper on laboratory studies and collaborations with several other UCLA departments assessing the impact of cannabis and cannabinoids on health outcomes. The applicant will be involved in the day-to-day management of outpatient studies, data analysis, and manuscript preparation and submission. The fellow will be encouraged to develop a line of research and seek individual funding under the mentorship of the PI.

Eligibility: The ideal candidate will have a terminal degree (PhD, PharmD, PsyD, MD) and training in pharmacology, neuroscience, psychology, or a related field at the time of the appointment. Trainees will be selected on the basis of a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience applying for and / or obtaining research funding is desirable.

Appointment: 1-3 yrs.

About us: The UCLA Center for Cannabis and Cannabinoids (UCAN) was formed in response to the increased need to study the impact of cannabis on health and society. UCAN is a strategic initiative to investigate the therapeutic potential and health risk of cannabis, with a focus on the interdisciplinary study of cannabis’ influence on society, including legal, economic, and social impact. The Center provides timely education, research, and service to lead public policy and public health decisions regarding cannabis by bringing together investigators and scholars from over 15 departments across UCLA’s campus. UCAN resides in the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. The Semel Institute, together with the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences of the David Geffen School of Medicine, in collaboration with other UCLA programs, provides an outstanding research and training environment in neuroscience, pharmacology, and public health.
