Dear CPDD Members and Colleagues,

I am writing to update you on the status of the CPDD 83rd Annual Scientific Meeting scheduled for June 19-23, 2021, in Montreal.  Due to the vast uncertainties surrounding continued travel restrictions and the state of the Novel Coronavirus at the time of our scheduled in-person meeting, the CPDD Board of Directors and Executive Office have worked closely with the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth in Montreal to move our contract to 2024.

CPDD remains committed to holding an annual meeting that showcases the latest substance use disorder research, providing a forum for robust scientific discussion, and presenting valuable professional development opportunities for students and other early career members.  Thus, the CPDD 83rd Annual Scientific Meeting will be held virtually once again in 2021.  We have extended our deadlines to accommodate this change:

Registration Opens – Thursday, November 19, 2020
Oral/Poster Abstracts Deadline – Monday, January 4, 2021 

Please submit your work to share with your CPDD colleagues in June!  Now more than ever, it is critical for us to continue to advance science-based substance use disorder research and treatment.

We are also very excited to announce that the CPDD Executive Office has been hard at work, developing a new virtual meeting platform for our meeting.

Based directly on your feedback, our new multi-dimensional virtual meeting conference hall will include:
• Personalized, up-to-date profiles for each attendee and the ability to browse registered attendees, to see who is currently online, and to initiate chats with colleagues
• An easy-to-navigate, filterable poster gallery with the ability to access the abstract, poster image, participate in live discussion forums and online meetings with the presenter, as well as archived access to pre-recorded audio poster tours
• Interactive program with easy-to-find upcoming events and the ability to jump directly into the desired event
• Scrolling panel highlighting current live programming as well as what’s coming up next
• Innovative Virtual Coffee Rooms to facilitate real-time networking and connecting with friends and colleagues
• Ability to customize a personalized comprehensive schedule with direct access links to each session, as well as access to daily archived recordings of conference programming

TRAVEL PORTLAND

Visa Information

A citizen of a foreign country who seeks to travel to the United States generally must first obtain a U.S. visa. Visas are placed in the traveler’s passport, the travel document issued by the traveler’s country of citizenship. Certain international travelers may be eligible to travel to the United States without a visa if they meet the requirements for visa-free travel. Note: U.S. citizens don’t need a U.S. visa for travel to Portland.

CPDD will issue a letter of invitation to support a visa application upon request. To receive a letter of invitation, you must be either:

  • a CPDD member in good standing;
  • an author or presenter listed on a scientific submission for the meeting; or
  • a registered attendee.

Travel to Portland by Air

Portland International Airport (PDX) is located 9 miles (14.5 km) northeast of downtown and is conveniently connected to the city center via MAX Light Rail. Currently served by more than 15 international and domestic airlines offering about 500 scheduled passenger arrivals and departures daily, PDX offers nonstop flights to more than 60 domestic and international destinations. Airport Transportation

Light Rail: The MAX Light Rail Red Line is the easiest way to travel to and from the airport, with contactless payment using your cell phone or credit/debit card. Travel time from the airport to the Convention Center station (located between the Oregon Convention Center and the Hyatt Regency Portland) is approximately 25-30 minutes. You can roll your luggage on board trains departing every 15-30 minutes depending on time of day, with service between 5 am-12:30 am. The Airport MAX station is located on the lower level next to the south baggage claim area. For complete schedules and more information, visit the Red Line page on the TriMet website.

Taxicabs: There is a cab stand on Level 1 of the short-term parking garage. Fares to the convention center area average $40 before gratuity. To return to the airport, you can order a cab through the city’s main operators or from a hotel with a dedicated taxi stand.

Ride Sharing: Uber and Lyft pick up on Level 1 of the short-term parking garage. Use the in-app fare estimators for most accurate pricing.

Amtrak offers routes to Portland from a number of cities on the west coast and across the country.
