Register Today: Civic Engagement Alliance Discussion
Curious about the roles that early career researchers are playing in shaping civic science? Join us on Thursday, May 29, at noon ET for an Alliance Discussion featuring awardees from Research!America’s Civic Engagement Microgrant Program and Public Engagement Training Content Microgrant Program.
Now in its 7th year, our Civic Science Microgrant initiative has supported nearly 150 creative, student-led projects across the country. These efforts empower STEM graduate students, professional students, and postdocs to tackle challenges at the intersection of science and society and connect directly with local officials, community leaders, and non-scientists to drive meaningful engagement with the public. We are also exploring new approaches to developing the skills scientists need to undertake this work.
Three awardees will share their experiences as part of the two programs.
Ashley Lauterbach, Belmont University
“Pharmacy Advocacy Initiative: Preparing Voices of Change” - a project that highlights the role of pharmacists beyond the counter as change agents for healthcare advocacy.
Justine Silva, University of California, Irvine
A digital training initiative that equips medical professionals to engage thoughtfully with brain donor families.
Dr. Myesha Shelby, Howard University
“Interfaith Dialogues: Building Science Perspectives” - facilitated conversations between scientists and faith-based communities on the importance of scientific research.
Dr. Fanuel Muindi, Professor of the Practice, Civic Science Journalism, Northeastern University; Founder & Director, Civic Science Media Lab, will join as a discussant.
Bring your questions and join us for an exciting discussion with scientists who are working to build important connections outside of their university walls.
We thank our funders: HHMI, the Lasker Foundation, the Dana Foundation, and Dennis Mangan.
I hope you will join us!
