Policy Intern – Addiction Science Defense Network (ASDN)
The Addiction Science Defense Network (ASDN) is seeking a highly motivated volunteer part-time policy intern to support our advocacy initiatives and policy-related activities. If you are passionate about advancing evidence-based addiction policy, eager to learn about legislative processes, and want to make a tangible impact in the field, we encourage you to apply!
Position Overview: As a Policy Intern, you will play a vital role in supporting the advocacy work of our network. You will assist with policy research, track relevant legislation, and help prepare advocacy materials to advance our mission of defending sound addiction science, treatment and prevention. We anticipate the intern would work from 4-6 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct policy research and monitor legislative developments related to addiction science
• Assist in preparing policy briefs, fact sheets, and advocacy correspondence
• Support the planning and coordination of advocacy campaigns and events
• Draft and proofread policy-related documents and communications
• Help manage outreach on social media and news outlets to promote advocacy efforts
Qualifications:
• A rising college senior, In graduate school, or a post-doc
• Interest in and some familiarity with substance use research
• Self-motivated, organized, reliable, and industrious
• Personable and a team player
• Good communication skills
• Proficiency with AI, social media, and software programs such as excel, word, PowerPoint, zoom, and search engines
